Top 5 Important Tips For a Long Vacation

So, you're finally going on a long vacation! There are some things you should do before you go; planning ahead will ensure a safe and memorable trip. Some questions you should ask yourself are: how far are you going to drive every night, how are you going to keep the kids occupied, does your destination hotel accept pets, is the car ready, etc. Now that you're thinking ahead, here are five important tips for a long vacation.

First, have your vehicle checked. Ask your mechanic for an oil change, tire rotate & balance and a mechanical inspection. The mechanic should check: oil & filter, transmission fluid, antifreeze, CV joints (on 4x4's), spare tire, wrench and jack. Check your owner's manual for any information you may need as to tire pressure, how to change a headlight etc.

Second tip, do you have an emergency kit? Some things that should be in it are: jumper cables, a can of tire inflator, flashlight (with good working batteries of course!), gloves, a simple tool kit with screwdrivers, pliers, sockets & driver, spare headlight, fuses & windshield wipers, can of motor oil and some extra antifreeze. If you will be traveling in the winter you should also have a large empty metal coffee can with a candle, chocolate or power bar, tea or coffee bags, and matches (in a zip-lock baggie) in it and a space-age blanket, wool socks and non-clumping kitty litter for traction.

Third tip is to pack appropriately for the weather; is it hotter or colder where you are going on your long vacation? If it's hotter, add to your suit case: sunscreen, lotion, sandals, bathing suit, kids' floaters, and beach towels. If it's colder, add boots & boot socks, mittens & gloves, and hats & scarves.

Fourth tip is a first aid kit. You can buy traveler or vehicle first aid kits. The difference is mostly in their size and container. Traveler kits weigh less, have fewer supplies and are in a compact pouch and vehicle kits weigh more, have a few more supplies and the pouch folds up to fit in the glove compartment or under the seat.

The fifth tip is for if you're travelling with children on a long vacation don't forget to pack some of their favorite things; pillow, blanket, stuffed animal, quiet toys, crayons, coloring books, and pajamas. You'll need some car-friendly snacks; trail mix, honey nut cheerios, raisins, banana chips, pretzels, granola bars etc.

Oh, one more tip...slow down, check out the sights, take a lot of pictures and have a great time!

Alaska is one of the only places in the world where you can turn to your left and see snow topped mountains and turn to your right and see the ocean and beach. It is a very interesting place to visit and vacation. Alaska is such a large state you could actually spend weeks there exploring the culture.

It is a place that is also full of a great deal of desolate land, which is great if you are interested in hunting or fishing. The animal life there in Alaska is incredible. You might be walking out of your hotel only to be greeted by an elk. The wildlife roams the cities and country just alike.

If you are interested in whale watching, Alaskan cruises are great options as well. The summertime is the best time to view whales. From June to September is the ideal time to go whale watching so be sure to plan your visit accordingly. There are even kayak tours that will allow you to get closer than ever to the whales. Of course, there is some danger involved, so you will need to take note.

If you go to Alaska during the winter months, be sure to mail your holiday cards out from the city of North Pole for an added extra treat. It is a great place to visit all year long, but you will especially enjoy it during the winter months.

Keep in mind that the temperatures in Alaska change drastically throughout the year. In addition, there are times when there is sunshine for almost 20 hours a day or darkness for almost 20 hours a day. So don't be shocked to experience this phenomenon.

Today, Great Exuma an airport and is much more accessible to tourists than ever. The primary draw of Great Exuma is its white sandy beaches, which pour into the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. However, there are more beaches on Great Exuma, yes, Great Exuma is one of the voting rights>top ten vacation destinations in 2004 by the Washington Post. The capital of the Exuma Islands, George Town, is located in Great Exuma, and, although it is the primary tourist destination, it has retained its relaxed atmosphere. This is the site of the Out Islands Regatta, a yearly boating event held in April at Elizabeth Harbor.

Sightseeing Attractions

While the fantastic Exuma coasts are a sight of their own, Great Exuma also has its share of man-made sightseeing attractions. The three main attractions are the Shark Lady Museum in Little Exuma, St. Andrew's Church in George Town, and the ancient Stromatolites.

Outdoor Activities

Great Exuma's beaches are nearly deserted, allowing tourists a much-needed break from the bustle of their everyday lives. They're also great places for swimming, as the currents around the islands are not strong. Snorkeling is available on every beach, but more adventurous tourists may want to snorkel at the Staniel or Crab Cays. Staniel Cay offers shallow reefs and blue holes and is the sight of the Vulcan Bomber, the ship sunk for special effect during the making of the James Bond film Thunderball. Crab Cay is the sight of the Exuma Pride wreckage, and it is also a great snorkeling location for viewing thousands of different types of tropical fish. The last huge outdoor attraction in Great Exuma is fishing. The most desired catch around the islands is the Bonefish. Deep sea boats also offer deep sea fishing opportunities, with most vendors operating out of George Town.

Nightlife

Great Exuma is not known as a nightlife hotspot, primarily because it is a destination for relaxation. The island has no clubs; however, get-togethers occur around the hotel districts frequently, and barbeques are held twice a week on the beaches. There is also weekend dancing available at the Two Turtles. Dining in Great Exuma is a great experience with most restaurants offering fresh fish dishes. However, don't expect to find too many different types of cuisines on the island. Most restaurants are clustered around George Town.

The top 10 vacation islands varies according to the individual's preference. The top ten vacation islands may also vary from one author to another. Before starting, ask yourself this question, what you really look for in a vacation island? As for myself, I like islands with good environmental landscape and have a variety in its scenery. Now let me start on my list of top 10 vacation islands.

My first choice would definitely be Hawaii because it provides spectacular beaches, amazing waterfalls, it has a rainforest and most of all seeing the erupting volcano nearby is a spectacular phenomenon to watch and who can forget the hola dance. I'm pretty certain that everybody knows it.

The next would be Bermuda of the Caribbean Islands. It has a creamy white beach with a touch of pink on it, amazing forest and its magnificent green waves that splashes in the seashore is amazing.

The third island on my list would be Phuket in Thailand. They have magnificent beaches and also they have an elephant for an added tourist attraction.

Fourth on my list would be San Juan in Caribbean. The architectural structure is an art in itself. Its Spanish influenced building and cobblestoned streets best complement each other.

The island that is on fifth place would definitely go to Palawan Island in the Philippines. It offers not only its beaches but it has miles Long River in one of its caves. They also have many resorts which is definitely world class.

The sixth place would be the Maldives of the Indian Ocean. Its blue clear waters and its beaches is magnificent to watch. It is somewhat unspoiled and fresh on the eyes. Being in the island makes you feel calm and at peace.

The eight place in my list would go to Bora Bora of French Polynesia. Including their beautiful beaches, one of their main attractions is their natives which showcase their ethnicity.

Vacation Spots In Your Backyard

This spring break, when the kids' are out of school for a week, instead of enrolling them in another sports camp, why not take a mini-vacation. There are plenty of sites to be seen across the country. Most of the destinations can be visited on a minimal budget.

When searching for good vacation spots, you want to find a place that has a little for everybody. You want a place with some history, luxury and entertainment that is not too far away. Though it seems like this wouldn't be possible, with a little effort you might be surprised to find a place for everyone in your home state or at least a short car trip away.

There are plenty of vacation spots that boast historical ties. Perhaps this is your niche. Instead of dragging everyone along while you investigate the area's history, leave the spouse and kids to their own devices. Vacation spots that cater to the history bug and provide options for everyone else are out there.

Maybe you are looking for a little pampering this Spring Break. The ideal vacation spots are those with relaxing spa treatment packages. Quiet luxury is how you would like to spend the week. No history lessons or shouting matches with the kids. You might be surprised to find historic hotels boasting local history and a premiere day spa. While the kids are off on a hotel-sponsored day trip, you could relax under the gentle hands of a masseuse.

Of course, you can't go to the spa or chat up the local historian without providing entertainment for the children. This trip is about them, right? Many historic hotels and sites have entertainment for the whole family. Depending on the area of the country, you might find horseback riding, white water rafting, ghost tours and more. Your hotel may provide programming for kids during the day.

Now, to find these destination gems, do a little research and think outside the box. A lot of families think of the coastal getaways with big hotel chains and theme parks. Look in your back yard or a state away. You may find interesting historical settings and beautiful, affordable family vacations near by.

Check with your local Chamber of Commerce. They may be able to draw your attention to something in your own county that you did not even realize was there. You could also get information from your state's tourist bureau. Brochures and maps of the state could provide you with just the vacation spots you are looking for.

Going local doesn't have to mean a stay-cation though. You could save a little money and stay in one of your community or state's all-inclusive resort hotels. Spend money on the relaxing, entertainment and a family-sized suite, not on the drive or flight.

There are so many vacation spots across the United States that can provide something for the whole family.

Blissfully Reinvent Yourself! Plan a Vacation to the Mountains of North Carolina

Asheville, NC: Part of the Geography of Bliss

Benjamin Franklin once said, "The Constitution only guarantees the American people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself," and catching some happiness was the goal of author Eric Weiner in his new book The Geography of Bliss: One Grump's Search For The Happiest Places in the World. Weiner, a seasoned correspondent for National Public Radio, has covered numerous stories from over 30 countries in the last twenty years and his most recent endeavor inspired him to visit a variety of places in search of joy.

Weiner's search for happiness landed him in countries like Switzerland, Bhutan, Thailand and Qatar, but unexpectedly, in addition to these more exotic locations, Weiner chose to list Asheville, North Carolina as one of the world's happiest places. To some readers, the choice of a small mountain city in the Southeastern United States as one of the world's happiest locations may seem like a stretch. Local residents and vacationers, however, know the diverse and friendly culture of Asheville. Along with the breathtaking Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains, the atmosphere and experience will not soon be forgotten.

Asheville Travel...Discover a New You

Many people who travel to Asheville and Western North Carolina find that the mountains inspire new perspectives and feelings about life. This is why AARP Magazine chose Asheville as number 7 of the "15 Best Places to Reinvent Yourself." The AARP research team evaluated ten criteria believed to represent the needs and desires of Americans over 50 years of age in order to complete the list including: job availability, affordable housing, entertainment, outdoor recreation, safety, educational opportunities, community vitality, quality health care, successful public school systems and transportation options.

AARP reported, "The downtown heart of the city (with an impressive collection of Art Deco buildings) has coffeehouses, antiques shops, bookstores, and galleries selling crafts (weaving, pottery) by mountain artists. And civic activism is strong; you'll find impassioned groups working to foster Appalachian music and to protect national forests from logging." The article continues to discuss the region's deep musical roots and variety such as bluegrass, jazz, pop and classical. "In spring, head to the hills," the article continues. Downtown Asheville offers some spectacular outdoor areas like the Botanical gardens at UNCA or the edible gardens near city/county plaza.

Travel Planners and Experts Agree -- An Asheville Mountain Getaway Will Amaze You

Residents of Asheville, and return visitors, flock each year to Western North Carolina to reinvent themselves or to find a little slice of mountain bliss. Even one of the world's most recognized travel guides honored Asheville and named it 1 of 12 Top Travel Destinations for 2007 along with International cities such as Krakow, Poland and Tokyo, Japan. Frommer's stated the cities were chosen because they were "surprising, thriving or emerging travel destinations." Asheville can be considered all of that. Authors Bert Sterling and Pete Sander, writers of the annually updated book "Cities Ranked and Rated", ranked Asheville number 8 in their top ten in addition to cities like Reno, Santa Barbara, Atlanta and Honolulu.

Planning Your Next Vacation? You Can Have Asheville Any Way You Like It!

Planning a vacation can create some difficult choices. Where to go? What to do? Where to stay? How to get around? In Asheville there are opportunities for everyone to plan the perfect vacation. Visit the North Carolina Mountains and explore both the outer and the inner landscapes. Blissfully and happily reinvent yourself; you never know what kind of treasure you may find.

Easy and Economical Vacation Reservation

One of the first things families consider when they start planning their holiday is the budget. While everyone wants to do it all and have a great time, unfortunately there are only so many dollars that can go into the trip. The key to getting everything you want for your trip is making those dollars go further. A cheap holiday can often be accomplished by doing a little research from the comfort of your own home.
Thanks to the internet, we can now compare airfare, car rentals, hotel rates and even attraction ticket prices online in just a few clicks on the home computer. This also has made the companies offering travel get into competition to have the lowest price, and with a little research you'll find a lot of bargain savings. So if you want to plan your golf holidays in Spain in the winters then start planning now.
When you first look for a website to browse for your vacation reservation, make sure to go to a reputable site. Not everyone who sends you an e-mail and has a webpage really is a business with good practices. The better-known reputable sites are ones such as Expedia.com, Traveocity.com, and Orbitz.com. These have all been in business for some time and have a proven track record.
You will want to go site to site and compare the price for the travel reservations you are looking to purchase. You can choose if you just need one service, such as airline tickets or hotel rooms, or if you need a combination of these items. If you are going to need more than one service, you may want to bundle them together in your search. Often there will be additional savings for booking multiple items.
When you are purchasing airfare, be careful before you buy. There are a few things to make sure you know before you hand out your credit card number. First, check for any restrictions on the ticket. Some are non-refundable, and while they are more affordable, if you are worried about possible changes in your schedule, it may be better to pay for a more expensive ticket. Also, the first price you may see on a ticket may seem too low to be true. Make sure it has all the appropriate taxes and fees included before you get too excited. If they have not been added in, they may lump an additional $50 - $100 on the price, per ticket.
Once you have made your selection, make sure to print out all the documentation that shows your purchase has been made. This may be useful down the road if there are any problems with your purchase.
If you are not a fan of online shopping and you are worried about all of your reservations being put into the system correctly, once you have booked, double check. A few days after your purchase pull out the papers you printed as a record of your order. They should have confirmation numbers. You can call the hotel or car rental location, give them that confirmation number and make sure they have everything correct.

For some reason, always seem to fiction on a deserted island as a bad thing to be stranded. Books such as The Lord of the Flies, as the film thrown away, and television shows like Lost they describe as a terrible ordeal that you're lucky enough to survive. But if you ask me, apart from the obvious food and shelter issues in the absence of some entries tropical desert island sounds great to get. At least if it has been the nature of the island was in these stories, you have access to a beach, good fishing in the trees to build a rain shelter and regular drinking water. Sure, you probably want to be off the island at some point, but rescuers take their time.

The so-called "desert island holidays" are a growing trend adventure travel for people with money to spend. There are obvious difficulties in this type of vacation, of course, more importantly, it is extremely difficult to control: 1 islands are uninhabited), 2), pictorial, 3) secure, and 4)open to tourists. However, as the growing trend tranquil holiday island, it is likely that governments and individuals, the islands are starting to take this potentially lucrative business.

So what are the regions of the world's best holidays are the right kind of conditions for the desert island?

The Caribbean: The Caribbean region has more than 7,000 islands, reefs, islets and islands, and this is just the number, ascounted. In the northwest there are the Greater Antilles, the larger islands such as Cuba, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico and Jamaica, all surrounded by several smaller islands in the middle of some of the most beautiful seas in the world combined.

Even more promising, in south-east, Lesser Antilles, consisting of hundreds of small islands, including the Virgin Islands, Trinidad, Tobago, Grenada, St. Vincent, and many others, that most of usnever heard of. And then there are the Bahamas, Florida Keys, the islands and many more strays in the sea.

If one considers the Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia island chains, add the islands of Oceania, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, and all other countries in the region have received countless islands, The number probably somewhere around 100,000. Top Ten Reasons to select a Vacation rental

We are planning a family trip for several days. This is my family, my brother, the family, my brother and other family members. Our mother is there. That makes four households, seven adults and six children all under the age of three years. Praised be my courage (crazy?) Woman who has somehow volunteered to coordinate the scheme.

Even months to book in advance, we could get four rooms adjoining at the motel, all with the right eye and the right level. If wewould go longer, we would probably rent a house, as we did before. There are houses and apartments in almost every corner of the world but are particularly common in areas with high tourism such as Florida, California and Mediterranean countries.

This festival is my Top Ten List of why a family home should rent for a house (especially one):

Before not hard to find ideal, adjoining rooms.

Everyone gets secondPrivacy, no matter where the care of children.

Third do not have to share a common area with strangers, but you can still hang around together.

More than a fourth bathroom. Should I say more?

Fifth Lots and lots of extra space. This is usually the main selling point.

Sixth Private swimming pool, in most cases. "Great to swim with the sound of insects .... fortunately outside the 'cage', a visitor wrote in the guestbook of Lesley & Gerry villa.http://www.lastminutevillas.net/villa/?villa_id=15&x=21&y=7

Seventh generally cheaper than hotels.

An eighth cold drinks, ice cream, fresh fruit or other snacks you fancy, this is a huge cost savings, suggests OWNER VILLA Christine Creasy. And a great convenience, too. http://www.lastminutevillas.net/villa/?villa_id=65&x=26&y=7

Barbecue ninth anytime. You can still eat out, but you must not do anything.

You do not 10th pass several weeks at home "Supply dirty laundry.

There you have it. My top ten reasons to choose a holiday. I have written before about the benefits of renting private accommodation:

http://www.lastminutevillas.net/villa-hotel.html

Of course I still prefer a tent in the desert park, but I could convince my mother some difficulties, we should meet there.

Top Vacation Spots in America

Whether it's relaxing on the beach, staying at a quaint mountain cabin, or enjoying the big city, the country's top vacation spots have something for everyone.
Hawaii
America's quintessential vacation and honeymoon spot, the islands of Hawaii are home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Balmy temperatures, crystal blue oceans, and white beaches make Hawaii a hotspot destination year round. Scuba diving, surfing, and snorkeling are popular activities while horseback riding, mountain biking, and ATV riding are popular in the lush, green mountains of the mainland. Many people opt to stay at one of Hawaii's luxury resorts and enjoy first class relaxation. Enjoy a tropical destination without having to leave the country...technically; passports are not needed, currency is the U.S. dollar, and English is widely spoken.
New York City
The Big Apple is a culturally rich melting pot that offers a myriad of museums, art galleries, restaurants, shopping, and other enriching places of interest. Popular tourist attractions include the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Ground Zero, Wall Street, Rockefeller Center, the Bronx Zoo, and Broadway, just to name a few. Most Americans think of Manhattan when they think of New York City, but in fact the city is made up of five different boroughs, Manhattan being only one of them. The rest include Staten Island, the Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn.
Whether it's shopping (Fifth Avenue), sports (the Yankees, the Mets, and the Giants), or theater (Broadway), New York City truly has something to offer for everyone and is as culturally diverse and rich as the city is populated.
Las Vegas
America's number one playground, Las Vegas is non-stop fun and excitement 24 hours a day. Casinos and resorts all along the Las Vegas strip stay open constantly and parking and drinks are free.
Sin City is home to some of the most luxurious hotels in the country, such as the Wynn, the Bellagio, and the Four Seasons. Arizona
Arizona is replete with Southwestern charm, mystique, and wonder. The beautiful and scenic desert landscapes attract visitors nationwide and the Grand Canyon is one of the world's leading natural attractions, with nearly five million visitors from all over the world each year.
Arizona has one of the most scenic mountain landscapes in the country. Arizona bed & breakfast inns, cabin rentals, vacation homes, and mountain lodges are widely popular.
The Grand Canyon State is also becoming a relaxation destination with the growth of cities such as Scottsdale, offering luxury shopping, spas, and golf resorts year round.

Perhaps not the first place that comes to mind when one thinks of a vacation, but you may be surprised to learn that Utah is in fact one of America's top vacation destinations. Think winter! Utah has some of the best snow in the world, let alone in the country. Ritzy ski towns such as Park City and Sundance attract winter enthusiasts from all over the world. The Sundance Film Festival, held every January in Park City, is one of the world's premier film festivals and attracts celebrities and movie starts of all fame to the Beehive state.
